Bonsai, Chain Stitch and Decorative Art & Weight Loss

A few days ago I noticed that Billy Bonsai was looking a bit thirsty, the trouble was I didn't know just how thirsty he was! When I took him off the shelf and placed him on the table, every single leaf fell just like they would in a cartoon. PLOP! Here's what he looks like now:

Then after watering him for a few days I noticed a tiny green sprig. Can you see it?:

Hopefully he'll recover fully. I'm so ashamed. :0(

Last week in craft class we did decorative painting. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. When the tutor showed us what we were going to do, everyone said they couldn't do it, but once you get the hang of the technique it's actually quite easy! Here's what I did:

And this is my favourite:

My new project isn't really getting anywhere. I think it's the wrong sort of project for me, too grown-up if you like. I much prefer doing character portraits. I think I might leave this one and start another. Here's what I've done so far. This is fused applique ready to stitch:

And here's the tiny chain stitch I have done so far:

I think I'll do my own version of this, but with me and Gary as the main subject:
I think this is much more my thing don't you? :0)

Last week I lost 4lbs and this week I lost 4lbs too. I am so thrilled. I really hope that this diet continues to work. I'm finding it ok and don't feel deprived at all. The trouble is, my shopping bill has literally doubled! It's because of all the extra fruit and vegetables. I'm not we can continue this way, but we'll see how it works out.

Oh Sindie, how could you! Poor little bonsai. I have always wanted one, are they expensive to buy or did you nurture this from birth?

Yes I can see two little green sprigs :O)

Did you actually paint the bear and flower from scratch (or a drawing?) Explain more thoroughly what you did please. I think it so lovely and very posh looking.

Yes I do think that would be more your style Poo.

Congratulations on the weight loss, well done skinny. Keep us informed and send a skinny lizzie photo soon as you think fit please.

Well you didn't describe what decorative painting was. Did you just paint the complete thing?

I've heard bonsais are very hard to grow, so with your record it will be a miracle if you succeed ha ha!

I thought it would cost a bit, going on a diet. It usually does :O(

Poor Bonsai, I do hope he recovers. He's making a brave attempt isn't he!
Having seen your last weeks craft efforts in the flesh so to speak, your photos are not nearly doing them justice. The colours of the second one (my favourite too) are much richer.
Congratulations on your lovely weight loss. You are doing well. I lost 4 1/2 pound my first week, and hope to do as well this week.
I'm really enjoying the diet and don't think age has much to do with it. I'm 76, and losing well so far. Next week will tell!

The bonsai was birthday gift for Gary from his old boss.

The decorative painting is from scratch. You load the brush with two colours at a time. You basically learn to do a comma bruch stroke and there's not a lot more to learn. Look at the pictures again and you'll see the commas. The teddy was done with a scruffy brush and kind of stippled.

That does certainly seem more like your sort of project, I must say! But it would be a shame not to go back from time to time on the present one so that you can eventually finish it.
